Abstract:
In the context of accelerating population ageing and the parallel advancement of the “Healthy China” strategy, the role of public cultural institutions in supporting older adults’ health and social participation has attracted increasing attention in cultural policy and social governance. This paper examines the “Age Well” initiative implemented by the University of Cambridge Museums (UCM) as a case study, and analyzes its objectives, organizational arrangements, programme contents and evaluation practices through the integrated lens of active ageing, museum social value and public humanities. Comparative analyses with relevant practices in Japan, Finland, and other countries were conducted. The study demonstrates that “Age Well” programme supports the elderly in terms of cognition, emotion, and social roles through cultural participation and experience co-construction. This paper argues that museum participation in healthy ageing should be understood as a form of cultural intervention, offering a reflective and transferable practice pathway for public cultural institutions in ageing societies not limit to a single project outcomes.
