| With a view to ushering in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, China Science and Technology Museum (CSTM) hosted the Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Inventions Artifacts. With materialized historical and cultural formation, the exhibition painstakingly promoted the great innovative spirit of the Chinese nation, effectively disseminated the enormous historical contributions of the Chinese science and civilization to the development of modern science and technology, making it a convincing footnote to the fact that “China has science” and a window through which the world learns about China. Science and Civilization in China, whose compilation and publication took Dr. Joseph Needham decades to complete, speaks highly of the important value of the ancient Chinese preeminence in science and technology, as well as their scientific spirit and methods in the history of human civilization. While exploring the origins of the world civilization of science, the magnum opus, based on indisputable historical facts, enables the Westerners to look at science in China with new eyes and increased respect—“in fairness to China's science and technology”. |
