Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics(STEM) education develops the disciplinary knowledge and intellectual skills that are critical for driving the innovation required to address global economic, social and environmental challenges. STEM capability is also the key for young people to navigate the employment landscape changed by globalization and digital disruption. Science centres play a key role directly in STEM education and indirectly through raising community awareness of the importance of STEM. The paper will address three questions:How well are Asia-Pacific countries performing in STEM education? How is the new employment landscape impacting on young people's prospects and requirements for STEM capabilities? How can science centers optimize their contribution to STEM education? |
